Colwood Pentecostal Church began as a vision of a former Pastor of Glad Tidings, Reverend Paul Hawkes. With impetus from his board members a decision was made to establish a work in a previously unreached area of Victoria. After prayerful consideration, the Western Community was chosen for the location of the new "daughter" church.
Services began in 1974 under the leadership of Pastor Don McMillan and were held in the Colwood Community Hall and Women's Institute Buildings. Bringing together both established Christians and new believers, Pastor Don molded the gathered few into a thriving body.
To help in establishing the church, several families from the city joined the Colwood fellowship and with the weekly addition of new converts it soon became necessary to acquire a more permanent place of worship.
After some prayerful consideration, property was purchased in the spring of 1975. Under the direction of Mr. Jim Hartshorne, a member of Glad Tidings, an ambitious building program was started and in fairly short order Colwood saw the completion of the building which now houses our congregation.
The new church experienced a rapid increase in numbers due to the heavy influx of new Christians. Some of them are still worshipping with us, some have moved on to other places, and still others have gone on to enter Bible College and subsequently the ministry.
Passing years bring changes in both pastoral leadership and congregation but the church continues to make an impact on the community through its programs and activities. The Pastoral Staff and congregation believe that God continues to have an exciting purpose and future for Colwood Pentecostal Church.
